The family of the 24 year old Fijian who lost his life while on duty in Afghanistan say they are proud of what he had accomplished.

The Vatubua family who hail from Vanuadina in Tailevu are not new to the demands of military life as they have also lost another son in the line of duty in the Military forces.

Vatubua family proud of son's uncle, Josaia Vatubua who brought up the 24 year old after his father died in 1995, said his father Sergeant Major Sailosi Vatubua set the trend for the young men in the family and was one of the first who sacrificed his life for the country while on duty in Malaya in 1952.

He added that the example of his father saw him and his three other brothers volunteer to join the New Zealand Military and the Fiji Military.

He added that from all the grandchildren, Joseva or as he was commonly known "Big Joe" wanted to be in the Military.

He added that his death was a hard pill to swallow as Joseva was the only boy in the family of three.
