Virimi Vakatawa and Alivereti Raka scored a try each last night to help France beat Tonga 23-21 in a closely contested Rugby World Cup match.
France will now play England to decide who tops Pool C on Sunday.
England has already qualified for the quarterfinals.
France raced to a 17-point lead before before Tonga made a late comeback in the match.
The winner of Pool C will meet the runners-up in Pool D in the quarterfinals.
Australia look the most likely to finish second in Pool D, while Wales will top that group if they can negotiate matches against Uruguay and Fiji.
