The Ministry of Health has managed to get much-needed IV cannulas, syringes, needles and IV fluids through urgent arranged shipments and freight flights.
Acting Permanent Secretary for Health Doctor James Fong confirms that the IV cannulas 18 and 20 have been ordered and paid for.
He says an urgent shipment of these cannulas will be coming into the country on a flight today.
An IV cannula is a small, flexible tube which is placed into one of your veins, usually in the back of your hand or in your arm. One end sits inside your vein and the other end has a small valve that looks a bit like a tap.
Doctor Fong says IV cannulas and other supplies are important and they are fortunate to get this through the urgent flight after negotiating with the overseas suppliers.
He also confirms that 8 containers are also arriving tomorrow with syringes, needles and IV fluids.
Health Minister Doctor Ifereimi Waqainabete says they are grateful to Fiji Airways for the freight flights, the shipping connections and the global connections with the suppliers through discussions by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and our overseas missions.
Doctor Waqainabete says the whole world is facing challenges with some medications that are manufactured in countries that have challenges with COVID and Fiji is fighting tooth and nail in order to bring it across through our global connections.
