The Water Authority of Fiji said upgrade work at the Waila treatment plant will continue for the next 12 months which will result in more water disruptions.
CEO, Opetaia Ravai said there are areas between Suva and Nausori and around the country where people do not get water 24 hours a day.
He said this upgrade will address this problem between Suva and Nausori.
Around 232,000 people in the greater Suva and Nausori areas will face water disruptions from midday Saturday to 8pm Sunday as a major infrastructure upgrade will take place at the Waila treatment plant.
Ravai said pipe works at the treatment plant have to be reconfigured.
He said they have built a new flocculator which will improve the treatment process and increase production capacity.
He said water carting will be done with 10 trucks on a scheduled timetable and he has made it clear that water trucks may not come to their areas at the time people would require water as a number of areas will be affected.
The upgrade will cost $3.4 million and will be carried out by Fletcher Construction.
The areas that will be affected include the whole of Rewa Delta, nearly all areas between Nausori and Suva, Queen Elizabeth Drive, Suva point areas, Vatuwaqa, Nasese, Lower Laucala Bay road, Domain, areas in and outside Suva City, Raiwai, Raiwaqa, Grantham road, Laucala Beach, Kinoya, Ratu Dovi road and most of the areas in Nasinu.
