Unit Trust of Fiji launches student savings scheme

Students below the age of 18 years can now save with the Unit Trust of Fiji’s new income fund which was officially launched today.
Unit Trust chairperson Shaenaz Voss said they are working with the Education Ministry for student participation.
Voss said parents and children can invest a minimum of $20 with the minimum interest rate of 3.5 percent.
She said the dividends are tax free.
Attorney General and Public Enterprise Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, who officially launched the programme, said children and parents are encouraged to invest.
Education Minister Filipe Bole said there is an existing active market of 200,000 students who are part of savings initiatives.
