The University of Fiji is overwhelmed by the extent of new student interest in its programmes across the 5 Schools for the 2025 academic year.
The Schools are Business and Economics, Law, Humanities and Arts, Science and Technology and Medicine and Health Science while the Centre for i-Taukei Studies is also registering a significant number of students.
Vice Chancellor, Professor Shaista Shameem says the increasing numbers is because the Year 13 results were released by the Ministry of Education earlier than expected.
Professor Shameem says this assisted in attracting more students to UniFiji and commended the Ministry for its efficiency in releasing the results, calling it a 'master stroke'.
She says parents have the time to carefully assess the higher education programmes and make a choice for their children on the basis of quality, individual attention, student support, holistic higher educational philosophy and emphasis on both employability and nation-building in the University's curriculum.
Professor Shameem says orientation begins on Monday with innovative experiences planned for new students while there will be a staff orientation programme to ensure staff is fully briefed and Academic Advisors are appointed for every student at University.
She says they make sure that no student is left behind at the University and the record of high levels of retention and completion rates reported by the University to the Ministry of Education in previous years is not only maintained but exceeded in 2025.
