A student of the University of the South Pacific has raised a question on why it is so easy for a child to walk onto the street and get drugs but it is so hard for our police to actually find the people dealing the drugs.
The student asked this question to the three members of parliament, Minister of Home Affairs Pio Tikoduadua and Opposition Members Ioane Naivalurua and Rinesh Sharma during the Speaker’s Debate.
The question was then complimented by the Speaker, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu saying that it was a very good question before handing over to Tikoduadua to reply.
While replying to this question, Tikoduadua says the reality is, that kids have access to drugs right now more than ever before in our communities.

He says our society has kind of slept on the job on this issue and adds he has never shied away from the fact that our police force needs to reset itself and become professional, and for the government to look at strategies and form guidelines and policies to do its work, and they are doing just that.
Tikoduadua says over the last few weeks, there have been raids taking place and people being taken in. He says they cannot keep raiding and they know how many raids have been done in the past and it will never stop.
He adds they are trying through their police reset to bring in new technology to try and dominate the space where drugs come through undetected.
Tikoduadua urges the public to respect the police and for parents to look after their kids.
