The University of the South Pacific has revealed that the fire which affected parts of the USP Lautoka Campus last December was caused by an electrical fault.
USP’s Property and Facilities OHS Coordinator Dr Roman Chute says according to the report by the National Fire Authority the fire was caused by an electrical fault.
He says the campus is still undergoing maintenance work and the aim is to clear it with authorities for use by the end of this week.
He says that the NFA has made recommendations to the Landlord before the building can be cleared for use by USP staff and students.
Chute adds that part of the recommendation is an over haul of the electrical wiring and this is currently a work in progress for the Landlord.
He says that a comprehensive assessment was done by the USP Properties Facilities staff and Landlord employed engineers and maintenance teams.
