A second-year civil engineering student of the University of the South Pacific has won the worldwide science quiz competition.

Kaveet Koushal Naiker beat 500 other science and engineering students from universities all over the world to win the $1,500 prize-money in the iSmart Quiz Competition, organised by the iEngineering Group.

The 21-year-old student from Solove, Wailevu in Labasa says winning the international level quiz competition was a prestigious moment.

Naiker says one of the difficulties he faced during the quiz was researching the various branches of engineering which he overcame by attempting few online quizzes and getting help from other students from different fields.

He adds the biggest motivation is the support he gets from his family and relatives who always pushed him and brought the best out of him.

Naiker has dedicated his success to God, his parents, lecturers and tutors.
