Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro

Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro has confirmed that the USP Council will be meeting this month to discuss the issues regarding USP.

He says part of the program of the meeting is the issues that have been raised regarding the appointment of the Visitor and concerns regarding the appointment of the Vice Chancellor.

Radrodro says all these things are issues that need to be discussed at the Board and Council level.

Last month, the Association of the University of the South Pacific Staff and the USP Staff Union went on a strike, calling on the USP Council to take immediate action and suspend Vice Chancellor Pal Ahluwalia pending investigations.

They say they are protesting because of the ongoing poor leadership at the University.

The unions have expressed deep dissatisfaction following the recent release of the Special Council meeting outcome, which they say misleadingly framed serious grievances as mere HR issues to be investigated rather than investigating Ahluwalia.
