The guided‑missile destroyer USS William P. Lawrence is scheduled to arrive into Suva today for a routine port visit.
The ship and crew of more than 300 sailors departed San Diego on the 15th of last month for a regular scheduled deployment.
During their deployment, they will collaborate with the U.S. Embassy Suva to conduct goodwill activities in Fiji with partner organizations as well as Oceania Maritime Security Initiative activities in the Western Pacific Ocean.
A law enforcement detachment from U.S. Coast Guard Tactical Law Enforcement Team South based out of Miami will also embark the USS William P. Lawrence to conduct maritime law enforcement operations in support of U.S. and Pacific Island Nations fisheries laws and to suppress illicit activities.
The USS William P. Lawrence is named after Vice Admiral William Porter Lawrence of the U.S. Navy who passed away in 2005.
