The new US Embassy has had an estimated impact on Fiji's economy of more than 50 million dollars.
US Ambassador Steven McGann revealed this at the official opening of the embassy at Princes road in Tamavua yesterday.
McGann said at the peak of construction, more than 500 local workers were employed at the project site, representing over two dozen local subcontractors and suppliers.
He said local workers and artisans have had a unique opportunity to learn how construction is performed at international standards as they worked with skilled tradesmen from the United States.
McGann added that although the Embassy is not for Fiji alone, they are proud that it was built largely by Fijians.
Consular services is now available at the new Embassy Compound at 158 Prince's Road in Tamavua, while a normal consular appointments schedule is expected to resume June 27.
