The US Coast Guard, Kimball arrived at the Suva Port this morning and will be in the country for the next three days.
With a crew of over 300 members, the US Coast Guard has been on patrol in the Pacific for the last four weeks to deter and report any illegal fishing.
Commander Constantine Panayiotou says illegal fishing is a huge threat to Fiji’s economy as well as other Pacific Island countries and the US Coast Guard is committed to reducing that risk.
Panayiotou says the ship has made a stop in Fiji to refuel and allow crew members to take a much needed break.
He has assured Fijians that they have certain COVID-19 guidelines and the crew will stay on board at all times upon their stay.
