A priority for the United Nations Population Fund in the Pacific is to bring persons with disabilities into the forefront for full participation in policies and programmes.
This was highlighted by the United Nations Population Fund Pacific’s Executive Director Dr. Natalia Kanem at the 6th Pacific Regional Conference on Disability.
Dr. Kanem says that this participation will improve Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, maternal and adolescent health, HIV and STI’s prevention, and the efforts to end gender based violence.
She says that they will be working with stakeholders and partners to realize their joint commitment to leave no one behind in order to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
She adds that as part of the 2030 Agenda, reaching those communities and vulnerable groups furthest behind is crucial to achieving success and achieving a lasting impact.
Dr. Kanem is in Fiji on a mission to engage with youth participants of the disability forum and make courtesy visits to the high level government delegations.
