UN Women Fiji strengthen support for gender equality and violence against woman

The UN Women Fiji has strengthened its support to the Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation for gender equality and violence against women through an MOU that was signed today.

While speaking at the event, the Country Representative for the UN Women, Sandra Berklau said that if we do not do it together, we will never get it done.

Berklau says that this MOU really sets out the UN Women’s commitment and services and long standing support to the ministry and to the government of Fiji.

She says that government involvement and leadership is a central pillar to the success of the new Pacific partnership to end violence against women and girls.

The Minister for Women, Mereseini Vuniwaqa says that today is a great day for women in this country.

Vuniwaqa says that she is very passionate about violence against women because she sees it as a great hindrance, a great challenge to the advancement of women in every sector in Fiji.

The Minister for Women has thanked the UN Women for this great partnership.
