United Nations Secretary‑General Antonio Guterres is expected to address parliament during his visit to the country next week.
Speaker of Parliament Ratu Epeli Nailatikau along with the Acting Secretary‑General to Parliament Viniana Namosimalua and an official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs met yesterday to discuss the visit by Guterres.
UN Resident Coordinator Sanaka Samarasinha also visited parliament for a briefing.
A bilateral meeting will also be held between Guterres and Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama
The government has also confirmed that Guterres will meet President Jioji Konrote.
The visit by the UN Secretary General is aimed at building momentum ahead of the UN Climate Action Summit in September.
The last visit by the head of the UN to the Pacific was Ban Ki Moon's 2014 visit to Samoa.
