The United Nations in the Pacific have launched their website this morning which is a concrete step and action towards information sharing with other UN Agencies in the Pacific.
Communications and Advocacy Analyst of the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator, Sanya Ruggiero says the theme for the UN75 commemorations this year is ‘the future we want, the UN we need’ and the creation of this website is one concrete step in that direction.
She says some of the key areas they want to address through the UN in the Pacific Website is awareness, advocacy, alliance building and accountability to the people they serve in the member countries.
Ruggiero says with all of this, it will also be highlighting the most vulnerable groups in our communities as well as key issues affecting Pacific Island Member States - whether its climate crisis, greater efforts around disability inclusion, violence against women and girls and many more.
She adds while several UN agencies operating in the Pacific have their own websites, the One UN website is a hub of centralised information around which UN agencies work in each of the ten countries; Fiji, FSM, RMI, Palau, Tuvalu, Kiribati, Tonga, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands and Nauru.
She highlighted through a storytelling approach, the website is also envisioned to be a home for engaging stories told through the eyes and life experiences of our partners across Government, Civil Society, donors, 7youth, the private sector and other key development partners.
