Tyson Fury has asked for his name to be removed from the six-person shortlist for the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year award, saying he's the “people's champion” and has “no need for verification or awards".
The two-time world heavyweight champion – who stopped American Deontay Wilder in February to win the WBC crown – posted a video on his social media accounts urging the BBC to take him off the list.
The other nominees are England cricketer Stuart Broad, Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton, jockey Hollie Doyle, Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson and snooker star Ronnie O’Sullivan.
Despite being among the betting favourites, Fury wants no part of the award, which is voted for by the British public.
