Two police officers were allegedly assaulted by a 35-year-old farmer from Dogotuki in Labasa last Friday as they were trying to diffuse a situation involving alcohol.
Commissioner of Police, Rusiate Tudravu says such cases of police assaults will not be condoned and only worsen the situation for those involved as they will face additional charges of serious assault.
Tudravu is calling for public cooperation in allowing police officers to carry out their duties.
Police say the accused has been charged with one count of drunk and disorderly conduct, three counts of serious assault, and two counts of damaging property.
They add he has appeared in the Labasa Magistrates Court and has been remanded pending a bail application.
