Two men charged with financial deception

Two men will be produced in the Nasinu Magistrates Court today after they were charged by the Fiji Police Mpaisa Task Force for separate cases of Obtaining Financial Advantage by Deception.

The Fiji Police Force says in the first case, a 36-year-old man residing in Wailea, Vatuwaqa is alleged to have, on the 21st of May 2023, obtained $447 from a member of public after informing the the victim that he had incorrectly sent the One Time Pin and to send the details back to him.

Upon receiving the OTP, he allegedly transferred the said amount which he withdrew for his own use.

In another case, a 36-year-old man residing in Koronivia is alleged to dishonestly obtained $190 from a member of public on the 17th of November 2023.

The investigation revealed that the victim saw a post on Facebook about a car for hire where a deposit of the said amount was sent to the number advertised.

The accused is alleged to have used the money and failed to provide the service.
