Two former Water Authority of Fiji employees charged with corruption related offences appear in court

Two former employees of the Water Authority of Fiji appeared before Magistrate Asanga Bodragama charged with corruption related offences.

Laisiasa Valesu is charged with abuse of office, forgery and obtaining a financial advantage.

It is alleged that Valesu facilitated the processing of false payments of $13,348.19 as claims for Crop Compensation for the  Painapiu Sewage Project.

Former Assistant Project Manager for Water Authority of Fiji, Vilimaina Kalokalo is charged with abuse of office.

It is alleged that Kalokalo facilitated the processing of false payments of $13,348.19 as claims for Crop Compensation for the  Painapiu Sewerage Project.

The incident occurred between 1st April 2016 and 31st May 2016.

Magistrate Bodaragama has granted them bail with two sureties who have signed a surety bond of $1000.

They both have opted to have their case in the Magistrates court however FICAC have objected and have asked for the case to be transferred to the Suva High Court.

Magistrate Bodragama will deliver his ruling on the 20th of this month.
