Two students from Dudley High School have been expelled after being involved in an assault case at the school.
The Dudley High School Board has confirmed to Legend FM News that one of the students expelled is the 17 year old student whose mother had filed a complaint with Police.
Following an emergency meeting of the Dudley High School Board, it has come to light that the 17 year old who has a record of indiscipline and another student assaulted prefects at the school for telling them to go to school as the two were allegedly playing truant.
The two prefects have been charged with common assault.
When questioned on whether the two prefects will also be removed from school, Board Chairman Rev Emmanuel Reuben says that the two prefects were doing their duty and the school board will be paying for lawyers to fight their case in court.
Reuben says any student who may be involved in any such discipline case will be face the same consequence.
He says that they are also looking at late comers which is a major issue for the school at the moment.
Reuben adds that they have begun the process of contacting parents whose children are late to school and will have both the student and parents come in for counseling to help address the issue before asking them to find a school closer to their homes.
Reverend Reuben is also calling on parents to step up and be part of their children’s education as it has been seen that during parent-teachers conferences and Parents, Teachers Association meetings the turnout is not as teachers hope it would be.
He says that if this culture of arriving to school late continues, young people will find it hard to make it to work on time when the time comes for these young people to enter the workforce.
Police have confirmed that one student has been charged with assault causing bodily harm and was produced in the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday.
He has been granted bail and will reappear on the 22nd of this month.
Meanwhile, the second student has been charged with common assault and will be produced in court on the 31st of this month.
