Fiji’s most decorated Olympian, Jerry Tuwai has been given the honour of captaining the Team Fiji Men’s Rugby 7s side at the Paris Olympics that kicks off tomorrow morning.
With 2 Olympic gold medals under his belt, the 35-year-old will be looking to make history for Fiji and claim his 3rd gold medal this week.
While speaking from the Games Village, Tuwai said that nothing is impossible when asked if he is adamant about a 3rd gold medal for Fiji from 7s.
The team had their jersey presentation yesterday.
Team Fiji Women’s Rugby 7s forward Raijeli Daveua has been selected to captain the Fijiana side.
The Australian 7s team kicks off the competition against Samoa at 1.30am tomorrow.
The Fiji Men’s 7s will take on Uruguay at 3am tomorrow in their first match, they will then take on the USA at 6.30am, before playing hosts France at 1.30am Friday in their final pool match. The Men’s quarter finals will kick off at 7am Friday. There will be a break on Saturday for the official opening of the Paris Olympics 2024 before the competition resumes on Sunday. The semi finals will kick off at 1.30am Sunday, and the final will be at 5.45am Sunday.
The Fijiana 7s will take on Canada at 3.30am next Monday in their first pool match, followed by their second match against China at 7am on the same day. They will then take on New Zealand at 2.30am next Tuesday in their last pool match.
The Women’s medal quarter final will kick off at 7am next Tuesday, and the semi finals will begin at 1.30am next Wednesday with the final kicking off at 5.45am on the same day.
