Turtle killing now banned

Turtle killing is now banned.

Permanent Secretary Viliame Naupoto said this step is now in place from this month until April next year.

Exemptions were usually given for traditional functions such as the installation of chiefs where they ask to kill 10-20 turtles however this has now been banned.

According to the Ministry, this is the breeding period for the turtles and this step is being taken as their population in Fiji is very low.
