A dream has become a reality for Josaia Turagacati, who owns Blade Lines Barber Shop after he was selected as one of the 10 first recipients to receive the Business Ready Support Scheme Grant that is implemented by the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs through the iTaukei Trust Fund Board, with technical support from UNDP and it's donor partners.
During an interview with fijivillage News, Turagacati says owning a business has always been a dream for him where he could not only earn a living but to give back to his community.
He says in a neighbourhood where businesses struggled to survive, his shop became a haven offering more than just haircuts, it provided an opportunity for three local youths whose future once seemed as uncertain due to employment and purpose.
He adds that Blade Lines was born from that dream, disregarding the odds stored against it.
Losena Tinai who spoke on behalf of the Nadave New Dawn Cooperative says they are so grateful for being part of the Drua Innovation Small Grant Scheme that will support their initiative which is the Sustainable Boat Building Programme that was established last year.
Tinai who hails from Rukuruku, Ovalau also told fijivillage News that their initiative is designed to generate employment and develop industry skills within the iTaukei rural community, leveraging CATD's educational programs.
While officiating at the handover, Minister for iTaukei Affairs, Culture, Heritage and Arts, Iferemi Vasu states that it is a day of recognition for the extraordinary ideas and projects that will contribute to the sustainable development of communities in Fiji.
He also reminded the recipients that the support they received is a testament to their hard work and determination.
