Former Wallaby Lote Tuqiri has called on Australian coach Dave Rennie to unleash the beast and start wrecking ball prop Taniela Tupou in Sunday's Test against world champions South Africa.
Tupou has been a bench forward in four of Australia's six Tests this year, playing just 52 minutes in the two Rugby Championship defeats to New Zealand.
Rugby.com.au reports that Rennie is attempting to use the Tongan Thor's running power to expose tiring defences but Tuqiri thinks it's a flawed strategy if Tupou's introduction comes at a time when a game is already too far gone for him to change the result.
Tuqiri says Tupou is obviously a first-choice front-rower, particularly after the Springboks named a monster pack.
He says maybe he is old school, but he would start with his best XV and knows Tupou probably wants to start as well.
Australia will take on South Africa at 10.05pm this Sunday in the Rugby Championship.
