Minister for Works, Ro Filipe Tuisawau has emphasised that they will be reviving all depots for Public Works Department to facilitate better infrastructure in the country.
Tuisawau says a lot of work will be done to the abandoned PWD Depots throughout Fiji after the last Government got rid of PWD which has caused our rural roads not to progress much for the past years.
He says the re-establishment of the Public Works Department is slow but is coming into fulfillment before the end of this year.
He highlighted during the Parliament sitting last month that the budget allocation of $98.3 million that is allocated for the new fiscal year will help the ministry achieve its goal of improving the state of our rural roads and carrying out public maintenance works in some areas, which he feels have been neglected for the past 16 years.
He adds that the ministry is working closely with the Fiji Roads Authority to map a strategy for undertaking road works in the country. The Minister visited the old Ovalau PWD Depot in Cawaci where the staff quarters have also been overtaken by bush and dirt.
