Today marks a significant moment for Elena Tuinacau as she has graduated from the Pacific Polytech Institution at the Nabua campus, completing the course for Front Office Operation Stage 1 and 2.
Tuinacau says that one of the many challenges she faced during her studies was the cost of bus fare and travelling from Nasilai Village in Rewa to Nabua, however, this did not deter her from striving to attain a certificate.
The 25-year-old says she supports her education by working part-time at Grower Fiji in Navua.
She is also the Vice Captain for the Serua Women's rugby team.
She is encouraging youths and school dropout students not to underestimate themselves but to strive to excel in trade work, which can support their future.
Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister, Viliame Gavoka says we must continue to promote education in our families, communities and Vanua so that they become independent and have a bright future ahead.
Gavoka has also reminded the graduates that they are not only celebrating their academic and technical accomplishments but also their unwavering determination to succeed.
He says their dedication, hard work, and perseverance have brought them to this moment worth celebrating and they have spent countless hours refining their skills, expanding their knowledge, and overcoming challenges to reach this point.
411 graduates graduated today with 263 women and 148 men.
