Acting Fiji Rugby Union CEO, Tevita Tuiloa says he will comment later on his facebook posts earlier this week where he talked about double Olympic gold medalist, Jerry Tuwai not getting the $33,000 from the government to build his house and that the new 7s players starting salary should be above $15,000.
Tuiloa had made the comments on his facebook page after Fiji’s loss in the Vancouver 7s on Monday.
The comments have now been removed. Tuiloa had said that Tuwai is yet to receive the $33,000 to build his house as promised by the previous government in 2021. The former Bainimarama led government announced in August 2021 a million dollar package for the Fiji men’s 7s team for winning the Olympic gold medal and our Fijiana 7s for winning bronze.
Part of the package was a residential lot at Tacirua East Subdivision valued at $141,700 for Tuwai, and $33,300 for the construction of a home for him.
Tuiloa had posted that the land in Tacirua is finalised but he has been told that the family is waiting for the $33,000 to build the house.
He was asked by Tuwai’s wife about their house before the Los Angeles 7s.
Tuiloa says he will work with the current government especially the Office of the Prime Minister and Ministry of Youth and Sports to assist Jerry Tuwai and his family.
We have sent questions to FRU Chairman, Commander Humphrey Tawake. He is yet to respond.
