Fiji Roads Authority’s Acting CEO, Kamal Prasad has clarified the driver of a truck drove through a work zone, disregarding traffic management signs that resulted in the truck getting stuck in a sink-hole in Nausori Town a few days ago.
He says the contractor had called off road works because of heavy rain.
Prasad says it was a worksite where the road was dug up for road works and not a pothole as claimed.
He says luckily there was no worker at the site when the incident happened.
FRA’s Acting CEO has also raised concerns that motorists are not slowing down at road work sites.
Prasad says this is happening on roads where there is a new seal and motorists are speeding despite road signs showing the speed limit of 30km per hour.
