The trough of low pressure which brought heavy rain over most parts of the country over the weekend now lies slow moving to the east of Fiji.

The trough is expected to gradually weaken and move away from the group from later today.

The Weather Office says occasional rain, heavy at times and a few thunderstorms are expected over Lau and Lomaiviti group.

Rain will be easing to showers later today.

The Heavy Rain Warning previously in force for the eastern parts of Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands and Lau Group has been cancelled.

The Flash Flood Alert that was previously in force for low lying areas and areas adjacent to small streams of the eastern half of Vanua Levu and Taveuni has been cancelled.

Meanwhile, a moist easterly wind flow prevails over the group bringing occasional showers over eastern Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the eastern parts and interior of Viti Levu.

Showers are expected to be heavy at times with a few thunderstorms over these areas.

Fine weather is expected elsewhere apart from isolated afternoon or evening showers and possible thunderstorms.
