Tropical depression moving away from Fiji becomes TC Kofi

The tropical depression that is now moving away from the Fiji group has now turned into a tropical cyclone however it will have no direct effect on Fiji.

At 3pm today, Tropical Cyclone Kofi was located about 220 km South-East of Lakeba and it is moving South-East further away from the country at 25km per hour.

Nadi Weather office Director Alipate Waqaicelua said there is only a heavy rain warning for Lau group which may be cancelled tonight. 

He added heavy swells will continue and may die out in a day or two.

Waqaicelua said people can expect fine weather from later tomorrow or Monday.

Meanwhile, people of Lau are feeling the indirect effect of the cyclone.

28 students from Komo Village School in Lau and three teachers have prepared their food, water and also their solar light since yesterday.
