Well known South Pacific nutritionist and a pioneer of women's rights, Susan Parkinson, died in Suva last Sunday after a short illness.
She was 92.
Parkinson was also a leading figure in the inauguration and development of the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) of Fiji, and the Fiji Women's Rights Movement.
She earned a lot of awards and recognition for the work she did.
She was made a member of the Order of the British Empire and the Order of Fiji and received an Honorary Degree from the University of the South Pacific.
Chairperson of the YWCA Suva area Council, Cema Bolabola said the late Susan Parkinson was the founding member of YWCA and Bolabola she was inspired by her work.
Bolabola said Parkinson had always championed the cause of rural women. She said Parkinson was a woman who believed in doing, not just talking about it.
Susan Parkinson is survived by her son William, daughter-in-law Sufi and grandchildren Farah and Shavez, as well as many relatives in New Zealand and Australia.
A church service to farewell Parkinson will be held at the Holy Trinity Anglican Cathedral at 10am today.
