Trial of 59-year-old man charged with the rape of his granddaughter to take place in April next year

The trial of the 59-year-old grandfather who is charged with the sexual assault and rape of his granddaughter has been set for the 13th to the 17th of April next year.

The man who was 57 years of age is alleged to have lured the 11-year-old victim to his tent and touched and fondled her inappropriately.

The man is the victim’s fathers uncle.

The alleged incident took place in Vanua Balavu.

The alleged incidents occurred between the 16th of January 2017 to the 21st of April 2018.

It is alleged that in exchange for the alleged acts that he gave the victim noodles.

State would be calling 4 witnesses to give evidence.

The case has been adjourned to the 26th of July for pre trial conference.

He has been remanded in custody.
