The Tovolea Rugby Club in Bureta District in Ovalau received a new set of gym equipment worth $17,000 through assistance from the Office of the Prime Minister.
While officiating at the handing over, the Assistant Minister for the Office of the Prime Minister, Sakiasi Tubuna reminded the youths of Tovolea Rugby Club that the gym equipment was also to promote physical well-being and provide an alternative to illegal activities not only for the youth but the community at large.
Tubuna highlighted the club's progress and emphasised the positive impact of sports in diverting youth energy towards becoming law-abiding citizens. He also acknowledged the shift in recent years where individuals have become more sedentary, opting for online games and social media over physical activities.
Tubuna further says that the initiative aligns with the government's commitment to building a healthier Fiji and addressing the challenges in the healthcare system and also to support communities that actively contribute to the well-being of their members.
He also highlighted the importance of encouraging people to engage in healthier lifestyles to combat NCDs and reduce the burden on hospitals. The Tovolea Rugby Club consists of youths from the villages of Naiviteitei, Tai, Nasaga, Navuloa, and Waidau.
