Tour guide awarded President's Medal for saving drowning tourist

26-year-old Tour Guide, Emi Mata Navitio received the President’s Medal today from Ratu Epeli Nailatikau for an act of courage in a situation of great danger.

Matanavitio who works for Tourist Transport of Fiji saved a tourist who was staying at Uprising beach resort from drowning in March this year.

She also dislocated her shoulder in the process of saving the tourist who was twice her size.

Matanavitio was one of the 28 people who were given medals today by the President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau for their overwhelming contribution to society.

Meanwhile, Suva Special School students 16-year-old Esther Molly and 17-year-old Abdul Imtiaz were each given a Medal of the Order of Fiji for winning gold medals at the Youth Para-Olympics.
