Toko Sanatan Primary School was recommissioned today with a new classroom block which will benefit close to 60 students.
This was done through the Japanese government’s Adopt a School Program which saw the construction of the new classrooms, rehabilitated and reinforced school buildings.
Toko Sanatan Primary School Head Teacher Gulshad Ali says two of the four new classrooms are being used for Year 1 students while two classrooms are being used as a kindergarten.
The Head Teachers quarters was previously used as a kindergarten.
Ali says the building was built in 2017 by the Japanese Embassy and has been in use. He says after the damages sustained during Cyclone Winston, they had to have classes in their computer lab and library.
The Embassy of Japan has also officially handed over a 5,000 litre water tank, 70 sets of desks and chairs for students and two sets of desks and chairs for teachers today, Which total to $840,520.
