By doing things together we can turn challenges into opportunities and dreams into reality.
This was the message by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Viliame Gavoka during the walkathon fundraiser by the Foundation for the Education of Needy Children in their commitment to provide childcare assistance and back-to-school support for families facing financial hardships and showcasing their unwavering dedication to making education accessible to all.
Gavoka says FENC, a voluntary, non-political, and non-profit organisation has become a beacon of hope for its outstanding efforts to uplift the most vulnerable in our society and to support Fiji's poorest individuals who face significant challenges and find themselves marginalized, struggling against adversity.
He says FENC has tirelessly provided educational and related support to the children of the poorest families as this year alone they have impacted the lives of 6,300 students, from Class 1 to Form 7.
The Deputy Prime Minister says FENC's major projects involve establishing learning centres in partnership with the Ministry of Education's community hubs to provide safe spaces for learning, nurturing creativity, and fostering growth, financial literacy training and sewing skills to single mothers and parents.
He says Empowering these single mothers means empowering their children and breaking the cycle of poverty.
Gavoka says in this digital age, knowledge holds immense power and FENC, in collaboration with the Coalition Government, is actively exploring avenues to enhance digital learning capabilities within our communities to ensure that everyone remains informed, connected, and equipped to confront the challenges of the modern world.
