The fire at Carpenters Street

All workers at Tissue Manufacturers Fiji Limited have been assured they will not lose their jobs after a fire destroyed the company’s factory in Carpenter Street in Raiwai on Monday.

Managing Director Rajesh Chand says there are six employees at the factory including their Sales and Administration team and they have been assured that their jobs are secure.

Chand says the storage and operation area was destroyed in the fire leaving damages estimated to cost more than 1 million dollars to a company only established 7 years ago.

The Caines Jannif Limited workshop which deals with picture framing was also destroyed in the fire.

Thousands of dollars worth of equipment was also destroyed and Caines Jannif Limited CEO Ikbal Jannif says they will establish the total cost of the damage after the authorities complete their investigations.

Jannif says four of their staff have been sent on paid time off.

Flammable materials such as paper, framing timber and flammable liquid within the two buildings resulted in the quick spreading of the fire.

Twelve people were inside the warehouse when the fire started and they were all safely evacuated.

The National Fire Authority is yet to complete its investigations.
