Thousands of residents in the greater Nadi and Lautoka corridor are expected to benefit from the construction of the new pipeline from the Nagado Treatment Plant to Nadele.
The Water Authority of Fiji says the project is underway and aimed at meeting and sustaining the growing water demand in these areas due to development and tourism.
They say the new pipeline is expected to increase the water discharge volume from the Nagado Treatment Plant when completed.
The total cost of the project is $7.2 million.
Meanwhile, the Minister for Public Works, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, visited the new Nagado Packaged Water Treatment Plant.
He says the new automated Nagado Water Treatment Plant is about a quarter of the size of the old treatment plant but with improved capacity.
Ro Filipe says the work on the $14 million treatment plant is still in progress and is expected to come online at the end of the year.
He says a similar automated plant has been installed in Vunidawa and Nabouwalu, which incorporates new technologies which have increased treatment capacity and where various critical data can be monitored from Suva and Lautoka.
WAF says the works on the new plant will involve civil works, installation of a 20MLD Packaged Water Treatment Plant, and electrical works.
