People of Wailevu and surrounding areas in Labasa now have easier access to a health facility after the opening of the Wailevu Medical Centre this morning.

Owner and manager, Navin Chandra says they opened the health centre in Wailevu to bring the services to the people rather than going to the Labasa Hospital.

He says by being located in a sub-rural area, it becomes easier for people to access health services.

Chandra says about 12 jobs have been created where they have two doctors, two receptionist and other staff including a phlebotomist.

He says their major focus is also on prevention and they have received a lot of positive response since opening on Monday. While opening the medical centre, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad says, under the Public Private Partnership, they together open the doors for new opportunities for not only for the people of Wailevu, but for Vanua Levu as a whole.

He says the opening of centres like this will certainly improve access to diagnostic services to support better quality healthcare to the people in rural areas as well as enhance the quality of life of the people; which is also the aspiration of the Government.

Professor Prasad says the heart of this centre lies on the dedication of the management, doctors and the other hardworking medical professionals.

He says apart from the General Practitioner services, the Centre will also provide other services such as lab testing through VanMed Labs, ultrasound scans as well as X-ray services along with the construction of a pharmacy which is planned for the centre.
