Thousands of people in various villages in Tailevu have benefitted from the recently constructed Vunivaivai bridge.
Fiji Roads Authority Program Manager for Bridges and Jetties Nixon Toremana said the 55 meter bridge was built within a year and this is a huge achievement for them
Toremana said the new and improved bridge will help improve traffic flow for the local community and the bridge was designed to comply with the 100 years design life.
He said that they had to demolish the old bridge and build a new one as it was not safe for vehicle and public use.
Toremana added that the new bridge costs approximately $5million.
Meanwhile, the Fletcher Construction Company has been awarded the tender to design and build four long bridges that include the Vunidilo bridge in Wailoku, Lomawai 1 bridge in Sigatoka and now Cogeloa FSC1 in Labasa.
