Thousands of Fijians have given submissions to the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission during the nation‑wide public consultations regarding changes in electricity tariff rates.
Energy Fiji Limited has proposed a 17.27 percent increase in electricity tariff.
Labasa had the highest number of submissions with 1,468 Fijians giving their submissions while Suva recorded the second highest with 1,282 submissions.
Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission also visited rural and maritime areas such as Levuka, Seaqaqa, Savusavu and the Western division.
The last public consultation was in Naqara Sanatan Dharam Primary School in Taveuni yesterday.
Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission CEO, Joel Abraham thanked the thousands of Fijians who participated in the face‑to‑face consultations and exercised their right as consumers to be part of this decision‑making process.
Abraham says the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission also accepted submissions via their website, through their Facebook page, via email and post.
Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission will now evaluate the feasibility of Energy Fiji Limited’s request to determine whether this will be granted.
