The Water Authority of Fiji is carting water to thousands of people in Labasa as they have not given a time frame on when water supply will be restored, and people have been without water for the past five days.

The affected areas include Vunivau, Bulileka, Basoga, Rara, Siberia and Lajonia.

The Authority says 2 line breaks had earlier caused disruptions which were repaired and services were expected to normalise by this afternoon, however, they are unsure as to when the service will be restored now as the Vunikawakawa Raw Water Pipe collapsed earlier this morning.

They say the pipeline transports raw water to the Benau Water Treatment Plant and water is then treated and supplied to parts of Labasa.

The Authority says people can call 5777 and ask for water carting trucks to supply water to their area.

Meanwhile, Vunivau resident, Vikashni Singh says her children’s education is being disrupted because her family has no running water and they have also run out of stored water.

She says her son is in Year 12 and it is important for him to regularly go to school as he will be sitting for external exams.

Singh says she has not cooked this morning and hopes water will be carted to her area soon.

She adds that her family’s driving school business is also being affected and they may not open today.
