Thousands of people are expected to converge in Suva as the mother of festivals, the 2013 Vodafone Hibiscus Festival, officially opens this afternoon.
16 contestants are vying for the prestigious title of Miss Vodafone Fiji Hibiscus while 10 for the King’s title.
The procession will begin at 1pm in Suva.
Victoria Parade to the Bowling Club will be closed from 12.30pm to allow the participants to assemble for the march.
Road users are being advised to use alternative routes as the road from Sukuna Park to Albert Park will be closed for at least 45 minutes.
Police said they will be out to see that unscrupulous individuals do not get their way and upset people who are sincerely participating and enjoying a fundraising event.
The official opening is at 2.30pm to 3.30pm.
Tonight from 6pm, the Prince, Princess, Ladies, Kings and Queens contestants will make their appearances.
At 7pm is the Kaila star search final.
