Health Minister Doctor Ifereimi Waqainabete says there are sufficient vaccines for every individual above the age of 18 years in the country.
Responding to a question on the Bula Ko Lau discussion forum, Dr Waqainabete says this is possible through the support provided by the COVAX facility and the support from other nations such as India, Australia and New Zealand.
Dr Waqainabete says other countries have shown their support towards the country’s fight against the COVID-19 outbreak and this is good news.
He says when we see the pledges of some countries in donating vaccines to Fiji, it fully covers everyone above the age of 18 in the country.
He adds that the investigation continues for the use of the vaccines on children lower than 18 years of age and there hasn’t been any confirmation from the World Health Organisation on which vaccines to use.
Dr Waqainabete says one good thing that can come out from the investigation is that children below the age of 18 can also be vaccinated.
The Health Minister adds there are currently more than 50,000 vaccines with the Health Ministry and the vaccination teams are working with this number.
