There is a tendency that some young civil servants are engaging in devious acts according to the Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption, Rashmi Aslam.
While speaking at the annual Young Leaders Seminar, Aslam says when FICAC was established in 2007 the understanding was that people who were in the civil service for a longer time period and knew the system very well, knew how to manipulate it.
He says this can be a misconception and what they have noticed is that a number of young people are involved in corruption related activities which is still prevalent today.
Aslam says the most common types of cases include fraud, bribery, obtaining financial advantage and abuse of authority.
He says in the recent past, the Commission has witnessed some of the biggest personalities in our society collapse due to lack of integrity, and bringing shame to themselves, their families and the people who follow them.
The FICAC Commissioner has stressed that it is also the responsibility of FICAC to protect the future of the country.
Aslam says when the future generation take up important roles in society, the nation has a generation of leaders who are ready to lead with integrity.
He has told the participants that as young leaders they are the invaluable asset of this country and he hopes they will grow up as a generation that values the principles of honesty and integrity. Aslam says the objective of the seminar is to empower the future generation to build their personality with one of the most important values of humanity which is integrity.
