There are currently 1,530 active cases of COVID-19 in Fiji

The Permanent Secretary of Health Dr James Fong says they continue to monitor the COVID-19 outbreak using indicators such as daily case numbers, hospitalizations, test positivity, and deaths.

Dr Fong says there is a downward trend across all indicators of the COVID-19 epidemic in Fiji, indicating a positive response to the overall COVID containment and mitigation response.

He says occupancy rates in health facilities, the occupancy rate of ICU beds, death rates, and vaccination coverage are indicators to monitor their health response capacity and they see a decreasing trend across indicators from their health facilities with increasing vaccination coverage for adults and 15-17-year-olds in Fiji.

Meanwhile, 87.5 percent of the adult target population are now fully vaccinated while 17,346 children aged between 15 to 17 years have received their 2 doses.

96.5 percent of the target adult population and 31,692 children have received their first dose.

62 new cases of COVID-19 have been recorded with 34 new cases recorded on Thursday and 28 new cases recorded yesterday.

There has been one COVID-19 death.

Permanent Secretary for Health Dr James Fong says a 78-year-old man from Navua was admitted to the CWM Hospital COVID-19 ICU ward with severe respiratory distress.

Dr Fong says he died 16 days later on Tuesday. He was not vaccinated.

There have been 674 deaths due to COVID-19 in Fiji, with 672 of these deaths during the outbreak that started in April this year.

There are currently 1,530 active cases of COVID-19 in Fiji.
