The state produced 23 witnesses during the trial following which the defence counsel filed the no case to answer application.

Eight suspended police officers and a soldier who have been charged with one count of rape in the Vilikesa Soko case have also decided not to take the stand.

The closing submissions will be made tomorrow morning.

Soko died in police custody in August 2014.

Manasa Talala, Seruvi Caqusau, Kelevi Sewatu, Penaia Drauna, Filise Vere, Viliame Vereivalu, Jona Davonu, Pita Matairavula and Senitiki Natakasavu have been charged with one count of rape.

Manasa Talala and Viliame Vereivalu are also charged with defeating the course of justice by instructing other Police officers to make false statements.

All have pleaded not guilty to the charge.
