The autonomy of a woman’s body is so important and she has full rights of her body so let no man or church interfere with that.
This was the strong message from Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre Coordinator Shamima Ali while speaking about abortions at a round table discussion hosted by the French Ambassador François-Xavier Léger.
Ali says we have seen women who have died because of botched abortions, but because we tend to be very religious and the stigma attached, people are not ready to talk about abortions.
She says a positive thing about Fiji laws is that abortions can be obtained if the person got pregnant through rape or incest.
